Preventing Kidney Stones

Kidney stones removal is sometimes as simple as prevention! Have you ever heard the old expression, "Prevention is the best medicine"? Well, the latest research is now showing that simple prevention tips are one of the most effective remedies for treating the painful disease. We have to know which are facts and which are myths, although the information we get can sometimes be confusing. In any case, the doctor can always decide as to which of the dietary measures are best for you if you are in need of a kidney stone prevention diet. If you currently have a kidney stone, there is good new because kidney stones can be passed naturally without drugs or surgery (Read last paragraph)! And if you are worried about future kidney stones, know that kidney stone prevention is as easy as changing a few simple lifestyle habits.

Try to limit your caffeine and alcohol content. If you do like a drink with your meal, red wine is now considered to be the most beneficial to your health, or a glass or two of beer. Avoid spirits and fortified wines (sherry, port etc..) at all times. Now for those uninitiated, passing kidney stones are one of the most painful  maladies know to humans. Lets just say that if you have any choice at all, you don't want to go there. Trying to pass a stone can often take weeks or sometimes months. The pain is usually completely debilitating. Actually, having moderate intake of calcium is very a simple but very effective method of staying safe from kidney stones because it reduces the chances of developing the most common type of kidney stone, the calcium oxalate.

Calcium stones are the most common type of this problem; these are composed of calcium compounds, mainly calcium oxalate, although calcium phosphate may also be present. This condition is caused by high levels of calcium in the system, which may be the result of conditions such as hyperthyroidism. Many people with kidney stones suffer from dehydration. A lack of fluids increases the mineral concentration in the kidneys and, with it, the chance that stones will crystallize. While you have a kidney stone, drink 2 1/2 to 3 quarts of clean water every day. Here or there a calcium oxalate crystal forms and attracts another and another until there are enough to make a nice little stone snowball, with sharp edges to torment its owner while defying almost every effort to get rid of it.

Lessen your salt intake. High amounts of salt and sodium is responsible for many health problems, including kidney stones. Cutting on salty foods is a great start. Try to reduce the amount of salt that you punt in on the food that you cook, as you will be surprised that most of them already have inherent salt attributes. Apples are useful in kidney stones, in countries where the natural unsweetened cider is a common beverage, cases of stones or calculus are practically absent. The ripe fresh fruit is, however, more valuable.Grapes have an exceptional diuretic value on account of their high contents of water and potassium salt.
