Hay Fever Symptoms

Hay fever allergies, also known as upper respiratory allergies are rarely associated with hay or cause a fever, nor does a virus cause hay fever allergies. An allergy reaction occurs when a weak immune system mistakenly identifies and attacks a usually harmless substance known as (allergens). Also known as allergic rhinitis, hay fever is usually characterized by an allergic reaction to pollen. The illness is named after the "haying season" when pollen grains in the air are in abundance. There are many available medication used today to treat hay fever symptoms. You should remember that the objective of these medications is to treat the symptoms. The best way still is to avoid the possible cause of your allergy.

Hay Fever symptoms can vary from one person to the next, depending on many factors including individual sensitivities, the levels of organisms that are in the air, and the number of allergens present. It is possible for you to be allergic to many different organisms at the same time. There is been a significant increase in the number of people suffering from this allergy within the last 25 years but interestingly, experts have not reached a conclusion as to why this is so. Some specialists have hypothesized that it may be the result of the effects of global warming upon the life cycle of our trees and grasses. Hay fever is normally seasonal. Grass or certain flower pollen may affect you. Dust and animal fur can also be triggers.Hay fever treatment is usually with anti-histamines, but this generally tends to make the condition progressively worse over the years.

Honey helps boost the immune system and lower your susceptibility to hay fever by decreasing your sensitivity to pollen, and it also helps you to develop an immunity if it is locally produced as it contains local pollen itself. If you can, take honey regularly throughout the year to keep your immune system strong. A prolonged spell of hay fever attacks may also cause chronic sinusitis and abnormal nasal growth. Therefore, it becomes imperative to control this menace as soon as the symptoms are observed. Hay fever could be controlled by avoiding the substance that causes the problem as well as through prescription medications that counteract the released histamine.

Hay fever tablets provide quick relief from the symptoms of this fever. Anti-histamine tablets reduce the effect of histamine and provide a respite from the symptoms. These tablets can be used to prevent and treat such allergic conditions. Hay fever and asthma are commonly found together, and this situation should be monitored carefully by your doctor because allergens can be a trigger for an asthma attack. Allergies can be determined by allergy testing but this can get expensive if a number of substances are tested for. There are many remedies and treatments available for hay fever and no one needs to suffer therefore, if you are experiencing hay fever symptoms, consult with your doctor or medical practitioner who will be able to talk through the options with you and if required prescribe the necessary medication.
