Precautions For Cystitis

Cystitis is common in women, but it is less common and a potentially more serious condition for men. For men the cause can be an underlying bladder or prostate infection, an obstruction or tumour, or an enlarged prostate. If you are diagnosed as having a bout with cystitis, your doctor will probably want to prescribe you antibiotics. Antibiotics can cause side effects and some people even build up a resistance to antibiotics. It is best to avoid the need for antibiotics. One way to accomplish this, is by trying hard to prevent cystitis. Cystitis literally means "inflammation of the bladder". If left, it can become very painful and even result in kidney damage. It is therefore important to begin treatment for cystitis as soon as the early signs are noticed.

Sometime tight clothing or the wrong fabrics can cause irritation which results in cystitis. Try not to wear clothes that are tight fitting on the lower half of your body. Look for underwear that is made of cotton and allows air to pass between your body and clothing. Chronic cystitis (more than 3 outbreaks in 18 months) is a hugely distressing condition and can be sparked of by something as simple as an extra glass of wine or a passionate night! Two remedies that were often suggested are cranberry juice and barley water. You can be affected by cystitis due to attack of bacteria e-coli in the urinary system. Normally these bacteria take shelter in the intestines but when they invade the bladder or the urethra (lower urinary tract) cystitis occurs. You can also practice some habits like drinking plenty of water and Cranberry juice, eating green vegetables and fruits and refraining from smoking, alcohol and acidic foods etc. to prevent cystitis.

It is best not to drink much if any alcoholic beverages if you have problems with cystitis. Too much alcohol can further irritate problems that you already have with frequent cases of cystitis. Try to curb the drinking of alcohol whenever possible. Antibiotics can be difficult to remember to take if they are must be administered more than once per day and at a different time each day. You must take antibiotics for the prescribed number of days which is difficult for some people. If you are able to successfully use alternative treatments, this is not a concern. As soon as you notice any one of these signs, a cystitis cure should be used which will hopefully prevent the infection becoming any worse. However, if you have a very high fever, blood in the urine and severe pain in the abdomen or lower back, you should see a doctor straight away.

There are some risk factors such as gender (women have cystitis much more than men) and health conditions such as diabetes; that you cannot change. You can reduce your incidence of cystitis symptoms by reducing or eliminating the risk factors that are within your control. Drinking cranberry juice each day and keeping fluids (particular water) in your body throughout the day can help you to avoid problems with cystitis. Take the steps to keep your body well flushed of bacteria each day. There are several treatments with the help of which cystitis can be cured effectively.
